Guiding Parents, Growing Communication

Every child can thrive when the right support is woven into their daily life. The Guided Growth mission is to help children build strong communication skills by guiding families and teams to confidently support communication through everyday interactions and relationships at home, school, and beyond. Our practice is unique in that it blends clinical expertise, parent coaching, and family-centered teamwork— all wrapped in the warmth of a real family who cares deeply about helping others grow.

Welcome to Guided Growth

When therapy leaves you with more questions than answers, and you’re looking for trusted guidance on supporting your child’s communication…

We’re here to help! At Guided Growth, our services expand beyond the traditional therapy model to provide the support parents need and deserve.

When children face complex challenges with communication, parents are often left feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to help. This is especially true for children who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) or who are Gestalt Language Processors, as they need consistent, meaningful support across real-life settings to make substantial and lasting progress. That is why, at Guided Growth, we provide direct support to parents in the form of coaching, consulting, and advocacy.

We believe that real progress happens when families feel confident and supported to bring communication strategies into everyday life. Our goal is to empower parents with practical, research-based plans that bridge the gap between therapy and home, helping children build meaningful connections, independence, and long-term success.

We are always available to connect—whether to answer questions, strategize, problem-solve, or simply listen.

Guided Growth: Empowering Families with Speech & Language Coaching, Advocacy, & Community

Parent-Centered Coaching Model & Advocacy

We will meet over secure video, where we will work directly with you to teach, model, and guide you in supporting your child’s communication during everyday moments.

Whether we are meeting without your child present or we are observing you with your child while providing real-time guidance, you will see real progress because you’re part of the entire process. You will learn what to do, why it helps, and how to fit it into your day in a way that feels natural. And research shows that natural, meaningful practice leads to faster and lasting growth.

Parent coaching transforms therapy from isolated practice into natural, daily interactions. By equipping you with knowledge and strategies, we ensure your child experiences language as part of life, not just as part of therapy.

  • It all starts with an individualized approach— meaning every call, our plan, and the package we set up is all designed for your needs and goals.

Most online programs for parents are a one-size-fits-all approach, offering parent education via a video or course without considering the unique needs of the specific child.

What makes this process unique is that you will work directly with a licensed pediatric speech therapist, who provides you with support that is tailored to your child’s communication style, strengths, and challenges.

You will receive a practical, research-based plan that is designed to be flexible and easy to follow.

  • Direct therapy gives children professional support during scheduled sessions. Parent coaching gives families the skills to make every moment a learning opportunity.

Unlike traditional therapy that happens once a week in a clinic, we meet at a time and frequency that works best for you. And every session is about supporting YOU— your child’s most important teacher and communication partner.

When you are equipped with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to support communication at home, your child will thrive.

  • We have advanced training, experience, and specialized expertise in AAC and Gestalt Language Processing— both areas that are often misunderstood, even by professionals!

Using our advanced training and expertise, we provide grounded and accessible advice, tips, tools, and resources so you can confidently support your child’s communication development.

  • Whether you are stuck on long waitlists or are seeking more support and home guidance than traditional therapy provides, Guided Growth offers an accessible and immediate solution.

We also advocate alongside you, helping you feel confident as you navigate school systems, providers, and services.

  • Gestalt language processors acquire language in larger “chunks” or scripts before breaking them down and combining them into novel, self-generated utterances.

Research in natural language acquisition (NLA) highlights that progress depends on moving systematically through developmental stages. Parent coaching supports this process by empowering caregivers to become confident communication partners and “gestalt detectives”, so they are able to:

    • Recognize their child’s gestalts, identify which stage of NLA they are currently in, and help them gradually move to the next stage.

    • Validate and respond appropriately to echolalic language, fostering trust and engagement.

  • Parent coaching works because AAC users need far more language exposure than therapy alone can provide. If symbols are modeled only twice weekly for 20-30 minutes, it would take 84 years to match the language exposure an 18-month-old has to spoken language. Coaching parents to model AAC throughout daily routines increases meaningful input, supports generalization, and leads to more functional communication.

    Through coaching, parents learn to:

    • Model AAC use during meals, play routines, and conversations.

    • Recognize and respond to their child’s communication attempts.

    • Create a rich language environment where AAC feels natural and empowering.

  • "...she is truly an amazing therapist! "

"Katie and I worked together back in 2017/2018, and she is truly an amazing therapist! Her passion goes above and beyond the job itself, and her ability to help is unmatched. Kids of all ages (even adults!) looked forward to seeing her each time they came for therapy. It’s hard to find a good therapist that actually takes pride and joy in their work, however, your search is over because Katie holds that spot effortlessly!"

    ~ Nate

  • "She will help you help your child in ways you never imagined."

"I have worked with clients getting dual therapy (ABA and speech) with Katie and seen drastic improvements in ALL of them. If you are looking for someone who invests themselves in your child's journey, who loves their job, and truly will find the best course for your child, this is where you need to be. She will help you help your child in ways you never imagined."

    ~ Jackie

  • "We love her and would recommend her to anyone..."

"Katie is one of the kindest individuals I’ve ever worked with. She is a complete joy to be around, and seeing how much our son loves her & the way she reaches him means the world to us. There are so many people who work these types of jobs for the wrong reasons, but Katie was put on this planet to do this— you can tell she enjoys what she does. We love her and would recommend her to anyone who is looking for someone who does play-based therapy for speech & cares about seeing her kiddos succeed."

    ~ Maddi

  • "I cannot recommend her enough."

"My son saw Katie when he was 2.5 years old and completely non-verbal. Over the course of 9 months, she had him speaking 3–4-word sentences— her play-based therapy approach was exactly what he needed. All you ever want is for the people who work with your babies to love them as much as you do, and Katie definitely does. Her excitement when he did something new matched mine. She is patient and so kind. I cannot recommend her enough."

    ~ Sarah

  • "She has been incredible..."

"Katie is very kind and sweet. She has been incredible in providing her expertise in regard to my son's speech concerns. She is thorough and knows her job very well. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a smart, dependable speech therapist."

    ~ Kinjal

  • "His guidance, professionalism, and dedication were invaluable..."

"It is my pleasure to provide this testimonial regarding my experience working with Steven Haburne. Steven played an instrumental role in helping me navigate the transition to becoming a contractor and continued to provide outstanding support throughout my one and a half years with the client. His guidance, professionalism, and dedication were invaluable, and I can confidently say that I would not be where I am today without his assistance. I sincerely appreciate all the effort and commitment Steven demonstrated during our time working together. "

    ~Thanh
